Zuora and Kiva share the same vision of a more inclusive economy.
At Zuora, we believe that the world of subscribers is a better world and that by facilitating access to property, the subscription economy has the capacity to democratize goods and services for all. It brings new freedoms (time, place, potential) that we did not have before and creates sustainable communities by using resources and products more efficiently.
Kiva envisions a financially inclusive world where everyone has the power to improve their lives by funding loans and unlocking capital for underserved people. Thanks to Kiva’s work, students can pay for school fees, women can set up businesses, farmers can invest in equipment, and families can afford needed emergency care. Since its inception in 2005, Kiva has been able to make a huge impact across the world, just take a look at the numbers.
Zuora and Kiva put people and relationships at the center of every interaction, making our partnership a natural fit as we unleash the energy of our employees to support the causes that matter most to them.
The very first Kiva + ZuoraEmployee loan initiative
As part of our very first employee engagement campaign, we offered our employees around the world a free $ 50 loan to lend to a borrower on Kiva.org. Each employee had the opportunity to choose one or two entrepreneurs to invest in in a variety of industries (everything from women to agriculture to environment etc.) and over 75 countries around the world.
With a record 86% turnout, our passionate employees made this effort Kiva’s second most successful employee engagement campaign! Kudos to the 43 employees who contributed to this success by volunteering as Kiva Lending Leaders to help raise awareness about Kiva and the power of microfinance, encourage participation, share borrower successes and inspire their colleagues. The collective impact has been enormous, find out!
The cycle of giving
We love the virtual donation cycle that Kiva enables. When the loans are repaid, the money is returned to our fund in Kiva and employees can make new loans in future campaigns. In fact, employees were so inspired by the borrower’s stories that they invested almost $ 2,000 of their own funds to make additional loans on Kiva.
Let’s see what this campaign meant for our employees …
Alexis Camagna, Associate Product Manager
I’m excited that Zuora is partnering with Kiva to bring change to communities around the world that need it most. I used my Kiva loan credit to support two women small business owners in Tonga and Timor-Leste, two very underserved and often overlooked areas of Oceania. I loaned $ 25 to Jesefina in Timor-Leste who is a widow and mother of 4 to buy additional supplies to sell in her general store which is the family’s only source of income. My other $ 25 loan supported Toakase in Tonga who cooks lunches for elementary school children.
Natina Gurley, Diversity and Inclusion Communications Specialist
I am super passionate about women entrepreneurs! Growing up in a Black, Pacific Islander (Samoa / Tonga) (and Mexican / American-Mexican) community, I wanted to find a way to connect with what was important to me and my education. So I funded Jamirah in Uganda for and Sitina in Tonga to buy goods for her general store.
Bruce Keilin, Senior Director, Software Engineering
I discovered Kiva in 2006 and quickly realized that he was combining my interests in foreign cultures and travel with fundraising and technology in an intriguing way. I used my Kiva loan from Zuora to make my 424th Kiva loan at Coop De Servicios Multiples Cedros Cafe in Peru to pre-finance the sale of several containers of their organic coffee. Over the past 15 years, I have loaned over $ 10,000 through over 400 loans to people in over 60 countries. That’s a lot more countries I’ve managed to visit so far. I also gave Kiva Cards to many family and friends – all of whom have become avid Kiva Lenders themselves – as a gift!
Samantha Sebastien, Associate product manager
It’s such an amazing campaign! I made my loans to two families in Cambodia. I have spent a lot of time in this country and am grateful to be able to give back to a community of people who took care of me while I was in their country.
We love how our social impact programs become an integral part of Zuora’s overall culture. By empowering our employees and putting them in the driver’s seat, they have had the opportunity to make their voices heard in our philanthropic efforts. It was amazing to see their passions come to life and see the impact they have had on the lives of people around the world. This is just the start of our partnership with Kiva and we look forward to making an impact on many other borrowers around the world!
