Amid reports that an ICC investigation found that Google had abused its dominance over the Android mobile operating system, the Internet major said on Saturday that Android had led to more than competition and innovation.
The CEO of the investigative arm of the Competition Commission of India (ICC) has discovered that Google is engaging in unfair business practices in connection with Android, according to reports.
After finding at first sight an alleged violation of competition standards, the watchdog, in early 2019, ordered a detailed investigation against Google in this regard.
Amid reports that the regulator’s investigation found Google abusing its dominant position, the company said.
Android has enabled millions of Indians to connect to the Internet by making mobile devices more affordable.
âWe look forward to working with the Indian Competition Commission to demonstrate how Android has led to more competition and innovation, not less,â a Google spokesperson said in a statement.
According to sources close to the development, Google has yet to receive the report.
There was no immediate comment from CCI regarding the Google affair.
In accordance with the procedure, CCI will carefully analyze the investigation report and solicit the views and comments of the parties concerned before placing an order.
