Offer to attract investors for Tuem’s technology hub hits the wall | Goa News

PANAJI: The state government has failed to entice large investors and electronics manufacturing companies to move into Tuem’s new electronics manufacturing park despite lower plot prices.
The four-year-delayed Tuem electronics manufacturing cluster has seen all interested investors flee due to the slow bureaucratic process in Goa.
In August, the state government offered industrial land ranging from 7,000m² to 38,900m² for the design and manufacture of electronic systems at the Tuem Electronic Manufacturing (EMC) cluster, but no large company has expressed interest in setting up an anchoring unit.
“Only one application was received. Only one company from Goa has expressed interest in establishing a small manufacturing plant in Tuem, ”said a member of the selection committee that was formed to review the applications.
Ironically, Info Tech Corporation of Goa (ITG) had rejected an offer from IFB Industries Ltd to set up a massive manufacturing facility with ancillary units in Tuem. Previously, aerospace company Aequs Pvt Ltd had offered to install a Rs 500 crore precision engineering facility in Tuem, while Smartlink Network Systems, GIT Electronics and Optel Vision had also expressed interest in the facility.
Long lead times and a lack of supporting infrastructure forced companies to look elsewhere, industry sources said.
The Information and Technology Department has developed 45 industrial zone micro-plots in Tuem, ranging from 300 m² to 800 m², to be allocated to component manufacturers as part of the larger supply chain. The department has offered larger industrial plots, ranging from 7,000 m² to 38,900 m², at a lower rate of Rs 540 per m² to attract investors, while micro industrial plots are offered at Rs 1,200 per m².
The Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has provided financial assistance under the EMC program for the establishment of the Tuem electronics manufacturing cluster.
